Haeran Ryu arrived at the Amundi Evian Championship with an opportunity to join elite company.
By the end of Sunday, the South Korean had secured her second major title in three weeks, adding another chapter to one of the hottest stretches in women's golf.
"It was tough today because I putted poorly. But thankfully I made birdie on the last hole. That was important. I was nervous but made it, so very happy with the last two birdies. This is just a dream. I didn't have a major and now have two in a row. I can't believe it right now,” said Ryu on Golf Channel.

Ryu failed to score a birdie until the final hole. At the par-5 18th, the South Korean finally holed a 12-foot putt to secure one. On the other hand, Henderson carded her third eagle of the round to force a playoff, finishing at 19-under par alongside Ryu.
Ryu went on to birdie the first hole of the playoff, which was enough to secure her second major title in three weeks. The feat was unbelievable to her, she said on GolfChannel.
“I think my plan is so different after winning the major because I really wanted to get the major championship, but before I got that one, it was so stressful,” Ryu had said earlier. “After the win, my patience is more down and then I can enjoy golf more right now.”
Certainly, with the lack of pressure, Ryu has brought out her best game. She adds this victory to last month's KPMG Women's PGA Championship win at Hazeltine and joins Nelly Korda as the second player to win back-to-back majors this season.
While Ryu celebrated a second major title in three weeks, Henderson walked away encouraged by one of the most impressive final rounds of the tournament.
Henderson gives her opinion on the final round performance
Henderson started Sunday seven shots behind Ryu but produced a remarkable comeback to force a playoff.
"Yeah, it was a lot of fun out there," said Henderson, in an interview with the LPGA. "I'm proud of the run I made. Congrats to Haeran. It was a lot of fun out there, but I'm pleased with how I played, and it gives me a lot of confidence."
Henderson registered a 7-under 64, making three eagles, including a hole-in-one at the par-3 8th, but her remarkable comeback ended in a playoff loss after she failed to match Ryu's birdie on the first extra hole.
