Scottie Scheffler’s fellow players are getting tired of being asked what makes him so good. The answer appears obvious.

After Scheffler shot a third-round 64 at the RBC Heritage 2026 and moved into solo second place, Harris English and Gary Woodland shared their thoughts.

The PGA Tour spoke to both players, who were also in contention at Harbour Town Golf Links, about why they respect the world No. 1. Woodland gave a very personal answer. "He's unbelievable, just the way where his bad days aren't that bad," Woodland said.

Then he pulled back the curtain on what most fans never see. "People don't see his work ethic of how much time he spends in the gym, how much time he spends on the range, the putting green, the chipping green," he said.

"He's relentless in his pursuit of perfection. And he sets the bar really, really high for guys out here on the PGA Tour."

Harris English kept it simple and personal. "What impresses me about Scottie? Everything, both on and off the golf course," English said.

English made it personal, saying that having spent time around Scheffler and watching him closely has changed how he thinks about his own game.

Both players said it at the right time, as Scheffler began Saturday seven shots behind Matt Fitzpatrick but surged with five birdies in six holes to shoot a 7-under 64 and briefly share the lead.

Their shared leaderboard position highlighted the pressure Scheffler’s surge placed on the field.

Matt Fitzpatrick sits at 17 under heading into Sunday, with Scheffler three back, alone in second at 14 under. On paper, the Englishman is still in control.

"The bogeys that I made today, I didn't feel like I kind of hit it off the planet, and I was scrambling and stuff," Fitzpatrick said after he shot a 3-under 68 in the third round at Harbour Town on Saturday.

Although Fitzpatrick's 25-foot birdie on par-3 14th and eagle on par-5 15th stopped Scheffler from entering the final round with the outright lead, he had Scheffler within touching distance before that burst.

A three-shot lead over the world No. 1 doesn’t feel safe. Just a week ago at The Masters Tournament, Scheffler almost made up a 12-shot gap on Rory McIlroy.

That’s why Sunday at Harbour Town is set up to be a very interesting finish.
