Harry Diamond is the Right Caddie for Rory McIlroy: Famous Irish Caddie Says Despite the Controversy

While the partnership between Rory McIlroy and Harry Diamond stays under a lot of scrutiny, Irish caddie Lorcan Morris believes that view misses the bigger picture.
Recently, Lorcan Morris appeared on the Ireland AM podcast, co-hosted by Tommy Bowe and Muireann O’Connell.
“Well, there's a lot of people who question about Harry with Rory. I think it's brilliant partnership. Well, why? Because a lot of people kind of say Harry was just his mate as opposed to this professional.”

Two runner-up finishes at the US Open, as well as a four-shot lead squandered at the 2022 Open at St. Andrews, caused a lot of questions to be raised about Diamond. This came on the back of McIlroy's split with JP Fitzgerald. But Morris had an answer.
“You know what, Tommy? I mean, you played sports at the top level and Irish people and the media, I love Ireland. I'm Irish to the core. They love to cut the legs off people that have success, right?”
But that's not all. Morris also addressed Diamond's extensive golf experience.
“Harry's made a lot of money working for Rory and they've done great together... I played college golf in North Carolina. Harry played college golf in North Carolina. They never talk about Harry's golf career.” Morris was clear about Diamond’s credentials. “Harry's a very successful golfer. Very successful golfer. Played international golf for Ireland. Harry's a scratch amateur.”
And Rory’s Masters Win Highlighted Their Bond
Rory McIlroy himself offered insight into that trust after winning the Masters and completing his career Grand Slam. When McIlroy won the Masters in April 2025, he admitted that this win was “Just as much his and it is mine.”
In fact, Morris also said, “I'm always comfortable with them. It's a great partnership.” In a sport where pressure exposes every weakness, McIlroy continues to stand by Diamond.
And for those inside the game, that loyalty is rooted in shared experience, proven competence, and trust built over years, not friendship alone.
