“Have a Lot of the Same DNA”: Justin Thomas on Change, Health, and the Road Ahead

16-time PGA Tour Winner Justin Thomas missed almost 100 days due to a microdiscectomy surgery.
He resumed his career as a competitive golfer Monday night in a simulator competition at TGL after a hiatus since the Procore Championship in September 2025.
One of the concerns after his surgery was getting back into form, and whether there may be any changes to their “Swing DNA”.
Justin discussed updates about his health in a press conference held at the SoFi Center on 23rd Feb, 2026. “Not a lot. I'm still going to have a lot of the same DNA and characteristics."
"I think there's maybe little things that have maybe changed over the last couple years that could have potentially caused an injury.” he explained when asked if anything had changed in his swing or lifestyle.
He compares the injury affecting every player differently. “I've done a lot of reading and research and understanding that a lot of golfers have a very similar situation, but it affects everybody totally differently.”
“But it's one of those things that it's not nerve related for him, and it was for me. So it's just strange.” he talks about how he got a surgery before his father did.
“I have to do the little things and stay on top of it, and playing injury-free is my main goal and always has been," Thomas says. "And it was unfortunate, but it is what it is, and I’m just gonna make the best out of it and do the right things.”
"I still have another, you know, 12, 15 years of great golf ahead of me.” talking about his future in the sport. "There's no reason to look backward, just look forward. The same DNA, hopefully just better."
Justin Thomas’ Return to the PGA Tour
“I'm excited to get back and play at Bay Hill next week.” Justin, about his return to the PGA Tour.
His concern about returning for the competitive tournament is “it'll be five, six months since I played a competitive tournament, so I'm not exactly expecting anything great.”
The Bay Hill Club is considered one of the most difficult “major-style” courses, where the tournament is set. “But at least everybody else will be struggling with me at Bay Hill, so that'll make me feel a little bit better hopefully.” He adds.
