How to Get Masters Tickets: Inside Golf’s Most Exclusive Pass

Mar 24, 2026, 12:30 PM CUT

If you’ve ever tried to get tickets to the Masters, you probably noticed one thing quickly: it doesn’t work like any other event.

You can’t just log on and buy a seat. You can’t show up and hope for entry. Instead, the process works differently, and most people don’t fully understand it at first.

So, let’s break it down step by step.

It Starts With a Lottery, Not a Purchase

First, the only official way to get Masters tickets is through a lottery system. However, not all tickets are distributed through the public lottery. A portion is allocated internally through Augusta National, including long-term badge holders, corporate relationships, and sponsor distributions.

Each year, applications open online for a short period. Anyone can apply by creating an account and selecting preferred days. After that, all entries go into a draw. If selected, you get the option to buy tickets.

However, here’s where it shifts: most applicants are not selected. The number of people applying is far greater than the number of tickets available. As a result, many people apply repeatedly without success.

Then Comes the Type of Ticket

Once you understand the lottery, the next detail matters: the type of ticket. There are two categories.

Practice rounds take place from Monday to Wednesday. These days are less structured, and players interact more with the crowd. Wednesday also includes the Par 3 Contest.

On the other hand, tournament rounds run from Thursday to Sunday. These are the official competition days, and demand is higher. Because of that, these tickets are harder to secure.

Why Availability Is So Limited

At this point, a key factor explains all Masters badges.

These badges work like long-term passes. Many have been held by the same families for decades. Each year, holders renew them, which means very few tickets return to the system.

Because of this structure, only a small portion of tickets is available through the lottery.

So, What Are the Actual Chances?

Naturally, this leads to the main question: What are the odds?

There is no official number. However, estimates suggest that hundreds of thousands apply each year, while only a small group gets selected. In simple terms, not getting picked is the common outcome.

Why the System Stays This Way

Now, when you look at the full picture, the structure starts to make sense.

The Masters limits attendance intentionally. It avoids large-scale expansion and keeps the crowd controlled. Because of that, the experience remains consistent, and demand continues to rise.

What You Can Do

If attending the Masters is your goal, follow a clear approach. Apply each year through the lottery, consider practice round options, and prepare your travel and stay in advance if selected. There is no shortcut, but there is a defined process.
