“I Signed as Quick as I Could”: Alex Fitzpatrick Confirms PGA Tour Move

After a dramatic 2026 Zurich Classic win alongside his brother, Alex Fitzpatrick secured full PGA TOUR status through 2028 and stepped into one of golf’s most valuable systems.

When asked if he was going to be a PGA Tour member, Fitzpatrick had a quick response.

“I am, indeed, yeah, yeah. I signed as quick as I could. I'm still shaking, and yeah, it was crazy,” said Fitzpatrick, expressing his excitement during a media interaction at TPC Louisiana on Sunday.

As a non-member entering the week, he was playing without long-term status and still splitting his schedule with the DP World Tour.

"It's always been a battle to have some form of status somewhere, so it was nice to have some eligibility that I know that I'm going to be okay for a few years. It's pretty surreal. I don't think it will set in for a long time,” said the 27-year-old.

By accepting membership, Fitzpatrick moved into the PGA Tour winner category and locked in exemption status through the end of the 2028 season.

That gives him direct entry into the 2026 PGA Championship, next year’s PLAYERS Championship, and the remaining Signature Events on this season’s schedule, including the Truist Championship, Memorial Tournament, and Travelers Championship.

That security came with the win, but for Fitzpatrick, the result was also tied to the person who helped him get there.

When the conversation turned from the win to the person beside him all week, Alex did not hesitate.

“I'm incredibly appreciative of him [Matt Fitzpatrick], everything that he does for me, I don't think there are many people that can say, you know, one of the best players in the world is your brother, but also, just what he does for me. Just love him to bits,” said the emotional younger brother.

Partnering with Matt, the brothers closed at 31-under 257, the lowest total in tournament history. While the gap narrowed late on the back nine, they held on by one shot over the teams of Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer, and Kristoffer Reitan and Kris Ventura.

On the 18th, Matt played from the bunker and left the ball inside tap-in range, setting Alex up to close out the win. For Matt, it was his third win of the season and enough to move to the top of the FedExCup standings.
