Most Tour pros keep their quirks private, but Justin Thomas put his on record. The two-time major winner detailed the bizarre superstitions he uses to stay competitive.

In a Between Two Shots interview with Skratch from 2024, Thomas shared his weirdest golf superstition. In the segment, called “Between Two Shots,” the two-time major winner answered rapid-fire questions without much time to think.

The superstition question got a straight answer. "If I'm not hitting it good, I'll change divot tools," Thomas said. "If I'm not putting good, I'll change ball markers middle rounds."

Filmed in what Thomas called “the brightest place in the world,” the interview covered everything from Ryder Cup pressure to his career goals.

Thomas also answered what the most nervous he had ever been on a golf course was. "First tee shot on my first Ryder Cup. I mean, I was you kind of black out," he said.

He has spoken about that moment at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris in detail elsewhere. "I would have been too nervous, to where I would not have been able to get a ball on the tee," he said, explaining why he played a 5-wood off the deck instead.

Justin Thomas Still Wants to Win More Major Titles

Thomas’ superstitions offer insight into his mindset, while his major championship goals reveal the scale of his ambition. In the same interview, when asked how many majors he wanted to win before retiring, he gave a clear answer.

“I mean, I’d say at least 10,” he said.

He currently has two majors: the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow and the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills, where he rallied from seven shots back to beat Will Zalatoris in a playoff. Both wins earned him the Wanamaker Trophy.

He has been equally candid elsewhere. "Having two majors is great, but I want five," Thomas said in 2023. "Fifteen wins is great, but I want 30." The Skratch answer set an even higher target.

After winning the 2025 RBC Heritage, his first victory since the 2022 PGA Championship, Thomas said, “I think it was the last thing missing, if you will.” The win ended a nearly three-year stretch without a title and moved him back to No. 6 in the world rankings.

Thomas has already won two major championships, and according to his own goal, he still wants to win at least eight more.
