Brooks Koepka is back on the PGA Tour, but his return isn't a simple celebration. 

The uncertainty comes as he prepares for his return to the PGA Tour after leaving for LIV Golf in 2022. Speaking on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio on January 28, Brooks Koepka addressed his return to competition.

“It’s been good. I’m excited to be back. Like I said, a little nervous just because you don’t know how everybody’s going to feel,” He said.

Earlier this month, Koepka formally rejoined the PGA Tour through a Returning Member Program introduced by CEO Brian Rolapp. The move followed his split with the Saudi-backed circuit in December 2025.

Koepka added that several players reached out by text, both those currently competing and those who have been on tour, to say they were glad to see him return, which made the experience meaningful for him.

Koepka explained his nervousness as a positive, saying, “Yeah, I guess so. I guess nerves are a good thing, right? It just means you care.” 

He added, “I do care a lot about playing good golf and getting back out here. I also care about the reception, how guys do feel, and I just want to make the best of the situation.”

Koepka will make his 187th PGA Tour start on Jan. 29 at Torrey Pines in the Farmers Insurance Open.

Another question for Brooks Koepka is how spectators will respond following his move to LIV Golf.

Koepka said fan reaction is part of what makes him uncertain as he returns. He added that he hopes the response is welcoming and that people are glad to see him competing again. 

While he has no regrets about his past decisions, he said he is looking forward to what comes next.

Brooks Koepka's Return Comes With Penalties

While Brooks Koepka is competing on the PGA Tour again, his reinstatement carries defined costs.

First, he must make a $5 million charitable contribution. The recipient will be selected jointly by Koepka and the PGA Tour.

In addition, he is excluded from the PGA Tour’s Player Equity Program until 2031. The program awards equity in PGA Tour Enterprises, and this restriction represents the largest share of the projected financial impact.

He is also ineligible for payouts from the FedEx Cup bonus pool for the 2026 season.

Finally, while Koepka remains exempt for major championships and can enter full-field events, he cannot use sponsor exemptions for signature events. 

To qualify for those tournaments, he must do so through performance-based pathways, including the Aon Next 10, Aon Swing 5, or a top-30 position in the Official World Golf Ranking.
