Greg Norman has never tried to soften how he sees loyalty. In a video clip shared years ago, the two-time major champion summed it up in his own blunt way.

Greg Norman said, “Some people think I'm very guarded and standoffish. But once I have you in my inner circle, I'm an extremely loyal guy. But once you cross that line of loyalty and go to the other side, then you know I'm very quick to cut people out of my life. Because I have no time for it.”

Those words track closely with how Norman has lived his career. As a player, he built deep relationships with caddies and coaches. Norman’s former caddie, Tony Navarro, once said that Norman always made Navarro and his family feel “like they were his family.”

He also added, “He would let me take my wife with us, and we stayed where Greg stayed. If Greg stayed at a Ritz-Carlton, we stayed at a Ritz-Carlton. If Greg stayed at a castle in Ireland, we stayed at the castle in Ireland.”

This philosophy extended into his post-retirement career. A clear example is his role in LIV Golf, where he continued to support players who joined the league, even when the criticism was constant and personal.

He supported players like Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, and Lee Westwood, and they publicly thanked him for his leadership during tough times.

Greg Norman Always Stood for What He Believed in

That same approach to loyalty became even more visible after Greg Norman stepped away from competitive golf. 

His time with LIV Golf is the clearest example. When players chose to join the league, Norman stood by them without hesitation. Even as criticism came from fans, media, and the wider golf establishment, he continued to support those players publicly. He refused to distance himself or soften his stance, staying loyal to the players who joined him.

In fact, Phil Mickelson once said, “He’s [Greg Norman] got the guts to stand up and just not take it and not wilt over.”
