Brandt Snedeker has never been someone who talks big about himself, so when the PGA TOUR asked what keeps him going at this point in his career, his answer was simple. But the way he played was very impressive.

The 45-year-old began the Valspar Championship with a score of 6 under 65. He was just one shot behind the lead. He has not won since the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open, so this kind of start is important for him.

When asked about his motivation, Brandt Snedeker said it with honesty. Speaking to the PGA TOUR, Snedeker said after his opening round on March 20, 2026, "I think I'm probably just dumb enough to realize that I think I can still compete."

"I still think I can play with these guys."

He said things are different now. For him, the right course and good conditions matter more than before, but he still believes in himself, and his 65 on Thursday showed why.

This week means more than just his winless run. Later this year, Brandt Snedeker will have an important role in team golf.

He will be the captain of the United States at the Presidents Cup in Medinah Country Club, and it is a big responsibility.

A captain who still plays on the tour feels more confident in the team room. He understands the course, pressure, and momentum because he has recent experience.

Brandt Snedeker has been part of U.S. teams for many years, so he knows what players respond to, and shooting a 65 during a tournament says more than any talk before Illinois.

“I know I’ve done it before, so I know I can probably do it again,” he said. “I just need to believe in myself a little more than I did in the last few years.”

That kind of honesty works well in a team, and it is not fake confidence. It is just a clear understanding of where he stands and what he is able to do.

What do you think? Can Brandt Snedeker compete at the Valspar Championship and carry that form into the Presidents Cup? Share your thoughts in the comments!
