"I'm Thinking More About Myself": Jon Rahm Shuts Down LIV Golf Question Before Final Round

Jon Rahm is refusing to let LIV Golf distractions derail his pursuit of history at the PGA Championship. The Spaniard also redirected questions about his circuit's future to focus solely on Sunday's final round.

Rahm spoke Saturday at Aronimink Golf Club after a third-round 67 left him tied for second, two shots behind leader Alex Smalley. When asked what a win would mean for LIV Golf, Rahm gave a direct response.

"Honestly, in a week like this when I'm thinking more about myself," Rahm said. "I'm not going to take on anything outside what I can control when it comes to competing tomorrow."

He did not close the door on the question entirely.

"If I do get it done and I sit here again tomorrow, then you can ask me the same question, and I'll give you an answer," Rahm said. "But what it would mean for Spain as well in the grand slam tally and being the last leg of the grand slam for us as well, there's a lot of things that would mean a lot, but too much of it is out of my control."

Questions about LIV Golf were expected after Rahm joined the circuit in late 2023. During his pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday, he faced five separate questions about the league.

Rahm has stayed under par in every round this week, shooting 69, 70, and 67 through the first three days. After Saturday’s round, he said he played well and stayed patient throughout the day.

"As far as me is concerned, that was a fantastic round of golf, and thrilled to be in a good position for tomorrow," Rahm said.

He has played much better this week at Aronimink compared to the 2026 Masters, where he finished tied for 38th. If he wins on Sunday, it will be his third major title.

Jon Rahm Chases Third Major Title and Historic PGA Championship Win for Spain

If Rahm wins on Sunday, he will complete the third part of his career Grand Slam. He already won the U.S. Open in 2021 and the Masters Tournament in 2023.

No player from Spain has ever won the PGA Championship. Not José María Olazábal, not Sergio García, and not even Seve Ballesteros.

Rahm addressed the history earlier in the week. "Statistically, for whatever reason, the PGA's our poorest performance across all majors," he said. "For whatever reason, we haven't performed our best at the PGA. I don't know why, but it is something that is in my mind, obviously, having one major left. It would be wonderful to close that fourth leg of the Grand Slam."

Through three rounds, Rahm ranks second in the field in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green. A win would also make him the first active LIV Golf player to win a major since Bryson DeChambeau at the 2024 U.S. Open.
