“It Felt Very Safe”: Collin Morikawa Explains Why He Shared Personal News After Victory

After ending a three-year winless stretch with a victory in the 2026 Pebble Beach Pro-Am on February 15, Collin Morikawa also disclosed something besides expressing his thoughts about his victory.
During the post-event press conference the moderator highlighted one of Morikawa's previous CBS interviews, where he disclosed something personal that also involved his wife, Katherine. Morikawa relayed the news this time with some more information.
In his CBS interview the 29-year-old disclosed, “Put golf aside, we’re actually expecting later this year.” But this time he disclosed that Katherine was at the venue to support her, since he judged the surroundings as "safe".

The reigning Pebble Beach Pro-Am champion said, "Yeah, it's kind of surreal to say this was the week we started telling a lot of players. She was finally out here, everyone kind of saw her, and you can hide it within the jackets, but we just felt like at the time, with where we're at in the pregnancy, it felt very safe."
Collin Morikawa and Katherine Zhu (now Katherine Morikawa) met in March 2017 while Morikawa was playing for the University of California, Berkeley, and Zhu was playing at Pepperdine University.
After getting closer gradually, Morikawa proposed to Zhu on November 30, 2021, during a trip to the Bahamas. The duo tied the knot a year later, on November 26, 2022.
Morikawa also shared that they had planned to announce the news only if he won. But now that he has announced it, golf fans may want to know more about his wife, especially since she had played the sport at the collegiate level.
All about Collin Morikawa’s wife, Katherine Morikawa
Katherine Morikawa was born in Vancouver, Canada, and is the daughter of former tennis player Mike Chu. However, golf was also a part of her interest as she went on to play Division I collegiate golf at Pepperdine University.
Katherine also earned the title of a WGCA All-American Scholar four times and recorded a career scoring average of 76.54. Before focusing on golf, Zhu also played tennis, which she spoke about in a 2016 interview with Pepperdine’s blog.
In recent years, she has taken part in half marathons and other running events, sharing updates through her Instagram account.
So, it wouldn't be wrong to say that Katherine is also living her golf dreams through Collin's victory. Do you think the 29-year-old will be able to make her even more proud this year with more victories?
