"It was tough"- Jordan Spieth reflects on the errors that cost him the 2026 PGA Tour season

Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth had no top-10 finishes despite making the FedExCup playoffs. The American knows what went wrong, and it all went downhill in a span of six weeks.
At the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Spieth has gotten off to a strong start, searching for his first win in four years. The 33-year-old was aware of his gradual downfall.
"It was tough... I think the tougher part was the last couple of years; I was very clearly going in this direction (indicating down). I was not as good as I was earlier in the season," Spieth said.
The opening two rounds at TPC Southwind have been a breath of fresh air for Spieth. At the halfway stage, he is tied for fifth and seems to have found his groove.

Spieth pinpointed the moment his season unraveled: six weeks from Memorial through the British Open.
“I had a lull this season from essentially Memorial through the British where I was kind of trying to do, press something that I probably didn’t need to, and it got me in trouble,” Spieth added, as per Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. “But I stayed on it for five or six weeks and didn’t get many results there.”
After missing the cut at Muirfield, Spieth faced a huge dip in his form. He failed to make it into the top-50 in three straight events. He again missed the cut at the Open.
Whatever Spieth tried, it did not really work out in his favor in that period.
In fact, Spieth has not registered a top-10 finish on the PGA Tour in 2026 but still managed to make it to the FedEx Cup playoffs (the only player to do so).
However, after taking a share of the first-round lead in Memphis and remaining in the mix at the halfway stage, Spieth is in contention to finally break his top-10 slump.
Interestingly, Spieth has been satisfied with his recent form.
Statistically Sound, But Winless
Outside of the six-week slump, Jordan Spieth believes his season has been on track.
"The rest of the season statistically has been very good. I just missed a lot of those big events of just finishing in the top 20 like I did most of the other events this year," Spieth said, as per Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard.
Nine top-25 finishes, but no wins—a pattern that haunts his 2026 campaign. Now, he stands on the edge of the top 50 in the FedExCup rankings.
The three-time major winner needs a minimum of a 23rd-place finish to make it to the BMW Championship.
At the moment, he is in a comfortable position to do so.
