"It's Pretty Annoying": Charley Hull's Honest Reaction to Another Major Heartbreak

LPGA pro Charley Hull was in strong contention to win her first major title at Riviera. With five runner-up finishes at majors and no wins, her latest near-miss added another line to golf's most frustrating ledger.
Hull was nowhere near the top after 36 holes, but a pin-hunting approach sparked a remarkable charge that ultimately ended in another runner-up finish for the 30-year-old.
“It's just frustrating. Another second place. I think that's five second place finishes I've had in majors now,” said Hull.

“So, yeah, it's pretty annoying, but I played really well the last day. Obviously missed a couple putts on the back nine, but it was quite windy and I hit the ball fantastic so fair play to Nelly Korda for back-to-back wins,” she added.
Hull registered her fifth runner-up finish at a major after closing with rounds of 65 and 67 to finish at 7-under-par, including a tournament-best 10-under over the final two rounds that briefly saw her hold the lead on Sunday.
“But I just love playing in the majors. Like I pretty much only get up for the major, it's really weird I just love playing in majors like if it's a normal week-to-week I struggle sometimes getting like the motivation,” she added.
The wait to become England's first women's major champion since English golfer Georgia Hall in 2018 continues, though she matched the lowest 36-hole total in U.S. Women's Open history despite three bogeys offsetting five birdies and an eagle on Sunday.
“I loved it out there. It was so much fun. The crowds were great and it was nice to see many so many young kids around,” said Hull.
Charley Hull’s Close Calls At Majors
With the runner-up finish alongside Mexican golfer Gaby Lopez at Riviera, Hull took her runner-up finish tally to five at majors.
Prior to this, her latest runner-up finish was at the 2025 AIG Women's Open. Japanese golfer Miyū Yamashita won by two strokes over Hull and Japanese golfer Minami Katsu and secured her first major victory.
Hull also finished runner-up twice in 2023, first at the U.S. Women's Open as American golfer Allisen Corpuz claimed her maiden LPGA Tour win, and later at the AIG Women's Open, where American golfer Lilia Vu pulled away to win by six shots after the pair shared the lead entering the final round.
The first of her runner-up finishes came ten years ago in 2016. At the ANA Inspiration, Hull and South Korean golfer Chun In-gee fell short by one stroke to winner LPGA pro Lydia Ko.
