Jackson Koivun dodges criminal charges over unique celebration after winning 3M Open

Jackson Koivun won his first PGA Tour title on Sunday. Then he grabbed a fishing rod and headed to the pond next to the 18th green. The signs on the course said fishing was trespassing. Nobody stopped him.
Koivun, a 21-year-old golfer, has claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, on July 27, holding off a late charge from Scottie Scheffler to win by three strokes.
After the trophy presentation and celebrations died down, Golf Channel's Brentley Romine captured Koivun on camera fishing at the edge of the rough near the 18th green.
TPC Twin Cities has signs posted around its property that read "Fishing at TPC Property is trespassing" and warn violators they will be "removed and prosecuted," according to Brentley Romine, who wrote on X. Koivun got a pass. It's unclear whether he brought his own rod or someone on site handed him one. He didn't catch anything.

The $1,584,000 winner's check was still waiting for him regardless.
Koivun shot rounds of 64, 68, 61 and 66 across the four days. His third-round 61 put him at 20-under and gave him a three-shot cushion heading into Sunday. He held it. Scheffler closed hard but couldn't get close enough.
Koivun is a former Auburn University golfer who turned professional in June after completing his junior year. He helped Auburn win a national title in 2024 as a freshman. Before turning pro, he was a two-time winner of the award for best college golfer in the country.
His path to Sunday wasn't a straight line.

Koivun made his Tour debut in 2024 but missed the cut and finished 52nd across two events.
In 2025, he entered seven events, missed the cut once, and posted three consecutive top-10 finishes, peaking at a tie for fourth at the Procore Championship.
He officially joined the Tour on a full-time basis this season. Earlier this month, he earned $93,000 after tying for 10th at the ISCO Championship. That was his first Tour paycheck. His second was $1,584,000. Koivun won in only his third start as a professional. His victory ended Scheffler's bid for a fifth runner-up finish to turn into a win. Scheffler settled for second for the fifth time this season.
