Eight years after leading Team USA at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris, Jim Furyk is back in the captain’s seat for the 2027 matches at Adare Manor.

As Furyk returns to the role, he explained what brought him back and why he chose to take on the job again.

“I think it's really the players. I mean, I've gotten to know this generation really well through Presidents' Cups, Ryder Cups. I love these guys. They show heart, grit, and passion. I see how much they love to compete, and I know how badly they want to win the Ryder Cup,” said the 55-year-old in an interaction with NBC Sports on Sunday.

The timing matters for the U.S. as well. Team USA has not won the Ryder Cup since 2021, when it beat Europe 19–9 at Whistling Straits under Steve Stricker.

“I love team sports. I love banding together, pulling together, being with these guys in the locker room. That's the reason. I mean, I've got to really thank the PGA of America, our Ryder Cup committee, for entrusting me with this group,” said Jim Furyk.

Since 2021, the U.S. has dropped the last two editions, including a 15–13 loss at Bethpage in 2025. The road task remains the bigger one, with the Americans still chasing their first Ryder Cup win in Europe since 1993.

“As you mentioned, I need to take those 30 years of experience, I need to pour it into Adare Manor and put these guys in a great position so they can succeed,” added the 17-time PGA Tour winner.

For Furyk, the Ryder Cup has been part of his career for nearly three decades. He played in nine straight editions from 1997 to 2014 and was part of two U.S. wins, in 1999 and 2008.

Since then, he has stayed involved as a vice captain, captain, and now returns for a second run as U.S. captain in 2027.

Jim Furyk Names Two Vice Captains for Team USA’s 2027 Ryder Cup Run

Jim Furyk also used the conversation to confirm the first two names joining his Ryder Cup staff for 2027.

“'I’m adding Stewart Cink and Justin Leonard to our team as vice captains,” revealed Furyk during the interaction.

With Stewart Cink and Justin Leonard, Jim Furyk has made his first staff call for Team USA’s 2027 Ryder Cup campaign.

Leonard returns with deep Ryder Cup history, including his role in the U.S. win at Brookline in 1999.

Cink brings five Ryder Cup appearances and previous vice-captain experience, giving Furyk two former players who know the event from both inside the team room and inside the ropes.
