Jim Furyk returns to the captain’s role. The 55-year-old will likely lead Team USA at the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland, according to Golfweek.

Furyk first led Team USA in 2018 at Le Golf National in Paris, where Europe won 17.5-10.5.

Despite the loss, he remained involved, serving as a vice captain in 2021, 2023, and 2025, and later captaining the U.S. to a Presidents Cup win in Montreal in 2024.

"I think I was a lot more prepared this year than I was in '18," Furyk told Golfweek after the Presidents Cup win. "The experience in '18 and knowing that I could have done a few things better, I think, really helped."

The PGA of America did not fully confirm the news. A spokesperson told Golfweek, “We will share details about the Ryder Cup captain announcement as soon as we can.”

Furyk has been part of the Ryder Cup for almost 30 years. He first played in 1997 and played in nine Ryder Cups in a row until 2014. During that time, Team USA won two times.

Furyk won 17 PGA Tour titles, including the 2003 U.S. Open.

In a 2023 CBS Sports interview, he said that he enjoys captaincy roles because they keep him close to the game. However, being a captain is tougher than it looks, as they watch less golf than expected, making it both challenging and humbling.

Can Jim Furyk Finally End America's European Drought?

Tiger Woods had been expected to be the captain. However, on April 1, following the March 27 incident, he stepped away to seek treatment with reports indicating a 90-day rehabilitation program in Zurich.

Keegan Bradley led the United States in the most recent Ryder Cup, trailing at 11.5-4.5 before the singles matches, losing 15-13 at Bethpage.

Furyk has already been the captain twice, becoming one of only four players to do so since 1979. Davis Love III followed the same pattern, losing at Medinah in 2012, and coming back to win at Hazeltine in 2016 by 17-11.

On the other hand, Luke Donald was confirmed as Europe's captain for a third straight term on March 4.

The U.S. hasn't won on European soil since 1993. Furyk knows that stat better than most. Now he gets another crack at changing it.
