Joaquin Niemann has a plan if LIV Golf disappears, and he just doesn't think it'll come to that.
Speaking to Beyond the Clubhouse, posted on X by NUCLR GOLF on May 10, the Chilean LIV Golf star was asked what he would do if LIV ends after this season. Niemann answered right away. He said he would first look at the DP World Tour, and if the chance comes, then the PGA Tour.
"I'd love to keep playing golf, of course," Niemann said. "I don't have status there, but it would be nice to go and play there. And then if one day we can go back to the PGA Tour, I would love to play on the PGA Tour."
He was quick to add one thing. "That is the scenario that could happen if LIV disappears, which I don't think is going to happen."
Niemann was also asked about LIV Golf’s money situation. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has confirmed that it will stop financially supporting LIV after the 2026 season. Niemann stayed calm in his response. He pointed to LIV CEO Scott O'Neil and said that finding new investors could actually help the league in the future.
"I feel like people under pressure work better," Niemann said. "It's going to be good to have that pressure now that we've got to raise the money and find a new plan."
He added that O'Neil's team has kept communication open with players throughout.
The former world No. 1 Brooks Koepka has already made his way back to the PGA Tour. Patrick Reed has moved to the DP World Tour. Several other LIV players are weighing what comes next.
Niemann was asked about the Belgian golfer Thomas Pieters, who has publicly said he has no interest in returning to the PGA Tour. "I guess everybody's different," he said.
Joaquin Niemann Shares What Keeps Him Motivated, No Matter Where He Plays
Niemann is focused on what truly motivates him.
"My game is getting better and better every time," Niemann said. "As much as I want to and I want to win majors, I want to win golf tournaments."
He also spoke about where his game stands heading into this stretch of uncertainty.
"Wherever that brings me, I'm gonna be there chasing that door and chasing that dream always," he added.
The league's future may be unsettled. Niemann's priorities aren't.
