Two-time major winner Jon Rahm's standoff took a new turn with the DP World Tour after withdrawing his legal appeal on March 10. And according to Rahm, the legal route wasn't the best way of resolving the situation.
“We’ve been talking with the DP World Tour and trying to find a solution that works best. I didn’t think taking the legal route or going to court was good for anybody,” said the 31-year-old during a press conference ahead of the Masters on Tuesday.
Last month, Jon Rahm withdrew his appeal against sanctions from the DP World Tour without reaching a settlement, which means fines worth $3 million remain unpaid. That appeal had been the basis for his eligibility to play DP World Tour events and stay in contention for the Ryder Cup.
At the same time, the rules around membership have become a point of disagreement. Players can compete across tours if they meet the minimum of four non-major events, but for LIV players, the requirement increases to six, including events selected by the tour. Rahm has not agreed to these terms.
In fact, he was the only one among nine European LIV players who chose not to accept the conditional release, which required playing additional events, clearing fines, and withdrawing appeals to retain membership.
“I have faith that we, and the DP World Tour, will find a solution that works for both of us,” added the Spaniard. And Rahm embodied this confidence when reporters asked about his participation in the 2027 Ryder Cup with a simple "Yes."
While Jon Rahm remains confident about resolving his return to the DP World Tour, he is, for now, competing at the 2026 Masters Tournament while the situation remains unresolved.
Jon Rahm Opens Masters Campaign as Questions Around His DP World Tour Return Continue
The eleven-time PGA Tour winner begins his campaign on Thursday at Augusta National. For the opening two rounds, he is grouped with Chris Gotterup and Ludvig Åberg.
Heading into the tournament, Jon Rahm’s recent results place him among the leading contenders this week. He has one win at LIV Golf Hong Kong and runner-up finishes in Riyadh, Adelaide, and South Africa this season.
This marks his 10th appearance at the Masters. After winning in 2023, he finished tied for 45th in 2024 and tied for 14th in 2025 as he returns looking to add another title.
Do you think Jon Rahm should accept the DP World Tour terms or hold his ground?
