Jordan Spieth's career is a tale of two halves. By 23, he was a three-time major champion on a historic pace. Now at 32, a baffling statistic haunts his resume: a nearly decade-long drought in golf's biggest events.

In 2015, Jordan Spieth was 21 when his first major win came at The Masters Tournament. He led from start to finish and reached 19-under during the event. He closed at 18-under, matching the record set by Tiger Woods. 

He also recorded 28 birdies, the highest total for that event at the time. That win placed him early in the conversation and set the base for what followed.

A few months later, he added another title at the U.S. Open. He won by one stroke after Dustin Johnson missed a putt on the final hole. With this result, he became the youngest winner of the event since Bobby Jones. Now, before turning 22, he already had two major wins.

Two years later, in 2017, the third major arrived at The Open Championship. He was 23. With that win, he joined Jack Nicklaus as one of the few to win three different majors before the age of 24. 

He still stands one win away from completing the Grand Slam. “I don't think I talk about it [the career Grand Slam] much with other people, but at this point, having won the other three, it's an elephant in the room for me. It's a goal of mine,” Jordan Spieth told the media in May 2022.

Up to this point, the timeline moved in one direction. Wins came early, and the count increased fast. Then the pattern changed.

After 2017, Spieth continued to compete, but no new major was added. By 2026, the difference between his last major win and the present will have reached close to nine years.

Since 2017, Jordan Spieth has faced gaps, returns, and setbacks

From 2018 to 2020, the gap started to build. Jordan Spieth went 1,351 days without a win. During this period, his position in the world rankings dropped, and his results did not match those of the earlier phase.

Then came a shift in 2021. He returned to winning form at the Valero Texas Open, which ended the long gap. Next year, in 2022, he added another title at the RBC Heritage. 

Spieth also had strong finishes in majors, including a third-place finish at The Masters Tournament and a second-place finish at The Open Championship.

After that, the pattern shifted again. From 2023 to 2024, he dealt with a wrist issue that affected his schedule and results. The problem continued, and he later had surgery in August 2024. 

Now in 2026, he is back on tour and competing again. At 32, he is working to return to the top level. The goal remains the same, but the path has taken different turns since 2017.
