Jordan Spieth Makes Bold Claim About His Game Despite What the Scorecards Show

Mar 14, 2026, 12:05 PM CUT

Despite the uneven scorecards through two rounds, Jordan Spieth believes the numbers don't tell the whole story at The PLAYERS Championship.

During a press conference on Friday at THE PLAYERS Championship, Spieth said that the scores do not reflect how he believes he has played through the first two rounds.

“But it's been better than my scoring. I toed a drive on 18 yesterday and then on one of the easiest holes I made a 7 today, and it's just a bit of a bummer to finish that way, right? They don't tell the story of how I'm really playing; they were just two swings that I just needed to miss on the other side.”

The 32-year-old opened with a 1-over 73 in the first round after closing with a double bogey on his final hole. He followed that with a 4-under 68 on Friday, a round that included seven birdies and a stretch of five in a row from the 16th through the 2nd hole.

Jordan Spieth is tied for 23rd at 3-under after two rounds at the 2026 THE PLAYERS Championship, placing him nine shots behind leader Ludvig Åberg (-12) and seven shots behind Xander Schauffele (-10).

During the press conference, Spieth said his recent form has improved.

Jordan Spieth Says His Game Is Stronger Than the Results Show

The thirteen-time PGA Tour winner added: “Everything. I'm doing everything well. The stats aren't necessarily showing exactly how solid things are.”

Spieth's recent results show several steady finishes. In 2026, he has played five tournaments leading into THE PLAYERS Championship.

He finished tied for 24th at the Sony Open in Hawaii with a score of 7-under. At the WM Phoenix Open, he missed the cut. He then placed tied for 29th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at 13-under.

“I feel like I've hit a lot of especially approach shots the last two weeks where I'm posing, saying, man, I did my job, and then I'm just shocked at where they end up, short or long or whatever. I think that's pretty normal for last week and this week.

His results improved in the following events, finishing tied for 12th at The Genesis Invitational and tied for 11th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
