Juli Inkster, 65, Makes LPGA History Decades After Her Prime, Proving Age Is Just a Number

Juli Inkster gives a mini clinic on the driving range at The Springs during an event celebrating the course reopening in Rancho Mirage, Calif., Nov. 1, 2025.

LPGA veteran Juli Inkster created history at the Dow Championship, becoming the oldest player ever to make the cut at an LPGA Tour event.

The first thing she did after achieving the feat was acknowledge her teammate, LPGA pro Angel Yin, who has been on the LPGA Tour since 2017 and is currently ranked No. 16 in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.

“Well, I had a great partner. Yeah, it's great. I mean, you know, I'm happy I played. Sometimes you got to put yourself out there and I felt like I did that this week. I've enjoyed playing with Angel. We left a lot of them out there today,” said Inkster after the second round of the Dow Championship.

LPGA golfer Juli Inkster tees off on nine during the first day of the Pro-Am at The Galleri Classic at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

At 65 years, 11 months, 19 days, Inkster was able to surpass JoAnne Carner, who previously held the record at 65 years and 26 days.

The seven-time major winner created this record on her 718th start. At Midland Country Club, Inkster and Yin shot rounds of 69 and 68 on Thursday and Friday.

After the two rounds, the duo stood tied for 25th. Their total score of 3-under-par was one shot better than the cut line.

“But you know what, hopefully we have two more days and we can see what we can do,” Inkster added.

Heading into the weekend, Inkster and Yin trail the leaders by eight shots. Celine Borge and Polly Mack lead by one stroke at the top with a score of 12-under. Right behind them is the Japanese duo of Ayaka Furue and Yuna Nishimura.

Inkster came close to achieving this record last year.

Inkster Was Close To This Record A Year Back

Last year at the Standard Portland Classic, Inkster finished just one stroke away from becoming the oldest player in LPGA history to make a 36-hole cut.

The 65-year-old had opened the event with a 69 and was cruising toward the record. However, consecutive bogeys on her back nine led to a 74 in the second round.

"I f******* love JoAnne Carner," Inkster said back then. "Yeah, it just kind of means that I have a passion for the game. I love the game. You know, I'm really happy I played this week. Kind of when I signed up, it was kind of like, 'What are you doing?'"

Inkster ended up finishing at 1-under 143 and missed the weekend cut by a stroke. However, now, a year later, she has broken the record and become a part of history.
