"A Career's a Long Time": Justin Rose Reflects on Longevity Ahead of Pebble Beach

Most golfers peak in their 30s, but Justin Rose just broke Tiger Woods' record at 45.
The English golfer goes into this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am ranked No. 3 in the world after a record win at the Farmers Insurance Open. He finished at 23-under par, breaking Tiger Woods’ tournament record.
His advice to young players? Slow down.
"I think that if I look back at it now, 45 years old, I didn't quite appreciate how long a career is," Rose said on February 10, 2026, in an interview with Flushing It.
Rose became a professional in 1998 after finishing fourth at the Open Championship as a 17-year-old amateur. That early success created huge expectations and pressure that he wasn’t prepared for.
"I think at a tender young age of 17, 18, 19, 20, wherever you're playing your golf, you want to be playing in an environment that's obviously challenging you to be better," Rose said.
"Just my advice to myself would be a career's a long time," Rose said.
He put too much pressure on himself at a young age.
"I felt like I just maybe put too much emphasis on having to have it right there and now," he said.
Patience Pays Off as Rose Reaches World No. 3
Rose’s recent performance proves it. On February 1, 2026, at Torrey Pines, he won the Farmers Insurance Open. At 45 years old, he became the oldest player ever to win the tournament.
He was in the lead the whole time and won by seven shots. This win moved him up to World No. 3.
"If you keep stacking the little gains on top of one another over time, like the compounding of that takes you to a pretty good place," Rose said.
His 13th PGA Tour win was not only about records. It showed that age doesn’t matter if you play smart.
Rose won at Pebble Beach in 2023. He is coming back this week as one of the favorites for the February 12 to 15 tournament, even though he is much older than some of the other players.
His message to young players is simple. He wants to focus on long-term success, not quick results.
