Justin Rose spoke at Trump National Doral about the 2028 Open venue. He knows Royal Lytham & St Annes well from his amateur days. While he respects the layout, Rose admits the course lacks the specific charm he prizes.
On Tuesday, at the 2026 Cadillac Championship press conference at Trump National Doral, Rose was asked about it. He said he knows the course very well and has won the Lytham Trophy there during his amateur career.
Rose said, "Technically, a good golf course. But, with respect, not one of the most beautiful, or not one that's on my radar of like my favorites. But as a technical test of golf, like really, really good."
Rose added a reason as well. He believes that Royal Lytham feels more like a course inland than one by the sea. The players feel more closed in. "You feel like you're in a little town," he said. "There are some trees around. You feel a little cocooned at times."

Simply put, Rose acknowledged the course's technical merits while noting it does not rank among his personal favorites.
Next, Rose shifted his focus to the week ahead at the Cadillac Championship when speaking to reporters on Tuesday.
Justin Rose Spoke on The Masters Loss
There is a story behind Rose playing in Miami this week. He had a tough finish at the Masters. He was leading on the back nine on Sunday, but a critical three-hole slide at Amen Corner ended his chances. Rose finished tied for third at 10-under par.
Rose said, "If I'm honest, it's just disappointing."
After that, he took a week at home to deal with it. "Just a little hollow, empty feeling for a few days," Rose said. "I needed to hear my own thoughts rather than everybody else's for a week."
It worked. He said last week was one of his best practice weeks in a long time. Rose came to Doral feeling fresh, motivated, and ready to try again.
The Cadillac Championship in Miami runs through May 3 at Doral's Blue Monster.
