Luke Donald has successfully won back-to-back Ryder Cup victories for Team Europe. His achievements have now caught the eye of King Charles.
Donald was officially appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King's Birthday Honours List on June 11 for his contributions to golf.
Donald captained Europe to a dominant 16½–11½ victory over the United States in Rome in 2023. He then followed it up with a 15–13 win against the United States in September 2025.
"I am very grateful to be receiving this honour," Donald said. "It is a proud moment for me, for my family and for all the people I have been fortunate to work with throughout my career, both individually and in the Ryder Cup."

True to his leadership style, Donald was quick to share the spotlight with his team.
"This is very much recognition of what we have achieved together," Donald added. "That, of course, includes all the players, vice captains, caddies, and staff who were part of the Ryder Cup victories in Rome and New York. They were special experiences, and I am determined that we go on to enjoy further success at Adare Manor next year."
The OBE adds to the MBE that Donald received in 2012. That same year, he helped Europe win the Ryder Cup at Medinah. Donald made his Ryder Cup debut as a player in 2004 at Oakland Hills. He earned 10½ points in 15 Ryder Cup matches during his playing career.
He also helped Europe win four Ryder Cups, including victories at The K Club in 2006 and The Celtic Manor Resort in 2010.
At the peak of his playing career, Donald held the World No. 1 ranking for 56 weeks.
In 2011, he became the first player to top the money lists on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour in the same season.
His career spans 25 years and has seven DP World Tour wins and five PGA Tour victories.
Next year at Adare Manor in Ireland, Donald will try to achieve something no Ryder Cup captain has ever done. He will aim to lead his team to a third straight Ryder Cup victory in the event's 100-year history.
High Praise from Peers and Rivals for Luke Donald
Donald's excellence and achievements have got praises from his peers and even rivals.
After Europe's win at Bethpage last year, U.S. captain Keegan Bradley said, "I think he's the best European Ryder Cup captain ever."
Rory McIlroy, who has played under seven different captains, echoed the same thought of Bradley.
"There's not one player or one person behind the scenes that isn't thrilled Luke agreed to come back and do it again," McIlroy said.
Donald's methods have drawn attention beyond scorecards. He covered small gaps under hotel room doors to block light from coming in.
He also upgraded the shampoo and other bathroom products for the players. To help the team prepare for the hostile atmosphere at Bethpage, he used virtual reality headsets during their preparation.
On his approach, Donald previously said, "My job is literally to give these guys a better chance to win. It's just taking the time and having the care that you want to do everything you can to kind of give these guys the best opportunity."
Do you think Donald can become the first captain in Ryder Cup history to win three consecutive editions at Adare Manor? Let us know in the comments.
