Lee Westwood is back on the course after a long hiatus, but according to him, the comeback is still a work in progress.

The Majesticks GC co-captain returned to LIV Golf action this week in Singapore after missing recent events because of a torn tendon injury. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, March 12, at Sentosa Golf Club, Westwood was honest about how he was feeling physically.

“I know it’s still not right,” he said.

The discomfort follows a familiar pattern through his rounds, and the early holes are manageable, then the ache sets in.

"It's like doing a workout in the gym, you get to the end of the workout, your muscles are aching. So after hitting nearly a round's worth of shots, it takes to ache a little bit."

Managing it has forced a change in his entire preparation routine, but Westwood is now carefully rationing how much he does before he even reaches the first tee.

Warm-up balls are being counted, and practice sessions are being trimmed. Everything is being saved for when it actually matters out on the course.

"I'm having to sort of monitor how much practice I do and how many balls I hit in the warmup," he said.

It's a discipline that doesn't come naturally to most tour professionals, although preparation is routine, and cutting it short feels like arriving underprepared.

Sentosa's brutal March heat makes a shorter warmup less of a sacrifice and more of a strategy. "Try and save it all for the golf course, really," he said, "which is not a bad thing this week with the heat."

Lee Westwood Returns With a Point to Prove at Sentosa

The timing of his return is very important. Westwood finished inside the top 20 in Hong Kong in his first event back on March 5.

This week, he also made an equipment change, switching back to PING i240 irons, the same clubs he used earlier in 2025 before his injury affected his season.

Going back to clubs he knows well while still dealing with a not fully healed tendon shows how carefully he is managing his comeback. Westwood isn't easing himself in gently, but he's trying to compete.

The question Sentosa will answer is whether his body can hold up across four demanding days of golf in the Singapore heat. He knows the answer better than anyone right now.

And by his own admission, he isn't certain yet.
