At 52, Lee Westwood is on the verge of a landmark win at LIV Golf Singapore. A victory this weekend would be more than just another trophy.
After three rounds at Sentosa Golf Club, Westwood is tied for the lead at 10-under alongside Joaquin Niemann. The 52-year-old posted rounds of 67, 68, and 68 to reach a total of 203.
Speaking during a press conference at LIV Golf Singapore on Saturday, Westwood reflected on what it would feel like to win.
“I guess at the age of, you know, I'm 53 on the 24th of April, so, you know, at that stage it would probably be the best win of my career," said Lee Westwood.
His performance puts him in contention for the title after a left wrist tendon injury sidelined him for the first two events of the 2026 season.
Westwood, a three-time PGA Tour winner, also reflected on what it means to stay competitive so late in his career.
“You know, to still be competitive at my age and, you know, up there and having chances to win tournaments like this is validation for driving myself on and doing all the hard work and practice that nobody sees and still being competitive and having a good enough game to compete against them.”
If the former World No. 1 converts the opportunity, the victory would mark his first individual title on the LIV circuit and the 45th win of his professional career.
Lee Westwood points to his favorite career memories
During the press conference, Westwood also recalled two of his most memorable wins from nearly three decades ago.
“I normally go back to the 97 Australian Open beating Greg Norman in a play-off as certainly my favourite win, and then obviously winning at Sun City with my wife carrying my golf bag," said Westwood.
The victory at the 1997 Australian Open wasn't just memorable, but one that shaped his career. Greg Norman came out as the defending champion, and Lee Westwood defeated him in a thrilling sudden-death playoff.
