“Let’s Make That Happen”: Michelle Wie West Backs a Unique Tournament Idea

Two years into retirement, Michelle Wie West's golf competitive schedule isn't hectic anymore, and tournaments have now been replaced by her experimentation and 'Dog Mom' era.

Thus, when asked whether a tournament featuring players competing alongside their dogs could resonate, it gave her an idea.

“Let’s make that happen,” she said earlier this week, as reported by Forbes. “I would love to see more golf courses where you can bring your dogs. Obviously, they have to be well-behaved. But we can figure out those details later. I think it’s a great overarching concept.”

During her LPGA career, Wie West traveled with her late Pomeranian, Lola, who provided her emotional support during long stretches away from family and friends. Golf can be an isolating sport, according to her, and thus, having that companionship helped her maintain balance.

Her current dogs, Gatsby, Daisy, and Rome, arrived after she moved away from competitive golf, but she says their presence has been really important to her. According to Wie West, the emotional benefits pets provide are ignored in elite sports due to over prioritization on performance above all else.

But bringing her furry friends on the course isn't the only idea with Michelle Wie West.

Michelle Wie West’s Partnership with Royal Canin

“I’m really excited to partner with Royal Canin ahead of the AKC National Championship. Our dogs are a huge part of our family so I get pretty excited when I get to talk about them,” said Wie West.

Michelle Wie West has launched a new partnership with Royal Canin, the Mars-owned pet food brand and presenting sponsor of the American Kennel Club National Championship, marking its 25th anniversary this December.

Wie West sees the partnership as a clear parallel between preparing elite show dogs and preparing for professional golf tournaments. Discipline, nutrition, and timing all matter to both categories.
