Lexi Thompson will not feature at Hazeltine National in this week's KPMG Women's PGA Championship, bringing an end to a 15-year streak of appearances at the major.

The KPMG Women's PGA Championship confirmed the news on its X account on June 22, 2026. After missing last week's Meijer LPGA Classic due to hip pain, it appears the 31-year-old has not been able to overcome the lingering injury issue.

No official announcement has been made regarding the reason for the withdrawal by either the LPGA or the player. Spain's Carolina Chacarra will replace her in the lineup, according to the post.

“Unfortunately, the pain in my hip reached a point where I knew I wasn’t able to compete. As difficult as it was, withdrawing before the tournament began was the only decision I could make,” Thompson wrote on her Instagram after missing out on the Meijer event.

Thompson's withdrawal from the Women's PGA Championship will see her miss the major for the first time in 16 years. It comes just weeks after she failed to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open for the first time since 2007.

Apart from her debut, Thompson has made the cut every time and has four top-10 finishes. Her best performance came in 2022 when she secured a T2 finish. Back in 2015, she finished third.

The 31-year-old has been playing on a limited schedule on Tour since the start of 2025.

How has Thompson performed on the limited schedule

Thompson played the 2024 season on a full schedule, and from the following year, she featured considerably less.

At the Dow Championship, LPGA player Megan Khang and Thompson lost in a playoff to South Korea’s Im Jin-hee and Lee So-mi and secured a second-place finish.

Following that, Thompson finished tied for fourth at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, an event that means a lot to her.

The 2026 season has been rather disappointing for Thompson, who has made just five starts, missed three cuts, and recorded a T12 finish at the Chevron Championship as her best result, according to the official LPGA website. By comparison, she made nine cuts in 13 starts and recorded two top-10 finishes in 2025.

With the lingering hip pain, Thompson’s chances of ending her winless streak this season look bleak. However, the Florida-born golfer cuts an iconic figure in women’s golf and can pull off an extraordinary performance out of nowhere.
