LIV Golf’s 2026 season ended in Indianapolis, where Michael La Sasso pulled off a surprise win. However, several familiar names ended the season with their LIV Golf futures uncertain.

Players who finished 47th or lower entered the relegation zone. This put several established LIV players under pressure ahead of the 2027 season.

Cameron Tringale finished 47th with 82.44 points and was the last player in the open zone. Luis Masaveu, Jason Kokrak, Bjorn Hellgren, Danny Lee, and Ben Campbell finished behind him.

According to Ben Smith’s report for GolfMagic, two-time major champion Martin Kaymer was another big name in the relegation zone. He finished 53rd with 61.55 total points. GolfMagic noted that the former world No. 1 has dealt with injuries since joining LIV Golf in 2022.

The biggest name in the relegation zone was six-time major champion Phil Mickelson. The 55-year-old finished 65th with just 3.55 points after playing only once during the season.

His only appearance came in South Africa. Mickelson has said that a private family health matter kept him away from the tour.

Sam Horsfield also had a tough season and finished 57th with 38.22 total points. Miguel Tabuena, Minkyu Kim, and Do-Yeob Mun were among the other players who finished below the relegation line.

What happens to the relegated LIV Golf players? 

As Ben Smith reported in the same GolfMagic article, relegated players previously had a chance to get their LIV Golf spots back through the Promotions event.

However, it is still unclear if this option will continue in 2027. The report also mentioned another big rule change. Team captains were once safe from relegation, but LIV Golf has now removed that protection.

This makes the final standings even more important for experienced players. Tringale, for example, was one of LIV Golf’s most consistent players last season.

He recorded 10 top-10 finishes. However, his best result in 2026 was only a tie for 10th in Mexico City. This shows how quickly a player’s position can change.

Horsfield could also look at another tour. GolfMagic reported that the Englishman may consider joining the DP World Tour if LIV Golf does not continue. This adds more uncertainty for players who are waiting to see what LIV Golf’s 2027 structure will look like.

The relegation list includes both struggling players and major champions. This makes the next part of LIV Golf’s future very interesting.

With the 2027 system still unclear, these familiar names might find a way back. There are chances that this could be the end of their LIV Golf careers.
