LIV Golf’s planned June stop in New Orleans has been postponed. Reports on Monday suggested the league was considering a delay. By Tuesday, LIV Golf and the state of Louisiana confirmed the decision.

“In coordination with the Governor of Louisiana and Louisiana Economic Development, we have made the strategic decision to explore moving LIV Golf Louisiana to a new window later this fall,” according to a statement LIV Golf shared with the Associated Press on Tuesday.

The event at Bayou Oaks at City Park was postponed after discussions between LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil and Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois.

“This shift allows us to avoid the peak summer heat and the crowded global sports calendar while ensuring the course is in the championship condition our fans and players expect,” LIV Golf added in the statement shared via Golf.com via X on Tuesday.

The government of Louisiana and the LIV team are working in tandem to deliver a top-notch golf event to the public, with LIV thanking the state for its sustained cooperation with the league.

“We are grateful for the continued partnership and flexibility of the state of Louisiana as we work together to deliver a world-class debut this fall. Our team is focused on maintaining the strong momentum of the 2026 season, and we look forward to sharing finalized dates in the near future,” LIV Golf said, expressing appreciation for Louisiana’s support as both sides work toward rescheduling the event.

That decision came after reports earlier this month said Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which funds LIV Golf, was reassessing its support for the league’s team model as it continues to struggle to gain traction with golf fans.

LIV Golf said the delay was strategic, but questions around its funding remain unresolved

As questions about LIV’s future grow, CEO Scott O’Neil told employees in a recent letter that the league would continue with its 2026 schedule as planned.

“We are heading into the heart of our 2026 schedule with the full energy of an organization that is bigger, louder, and more influential than ever before,” said Scott O’Neil in a letter to employees.

An anonymous source told CNN Sports that LIV’s funding and day-to-day operations were continuing as planned.

Even with that reassurance, questions around LIV’s financial position remain.

Much of the focus has stayed on Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which backs the league, as broader economic pressure continues to shape where its money goes.

An anonymous Saudi source had previously told CNN that the PIF was not expected to step away from LIV this year. The source said the fund remained committed for 2026 but was reassessing its longer-term position.

“The PIF is in for this year, but is restructuring as they were supposed to merge with the PGA (Tour), but that deal did not go through. They had been approached by some for investment or buyout, but had put those on hold for the PGA talks. As of now, they are looking at all options.”

LIV, however, has maintained that its business remains stable. The league said revenue is up year over year, with gains in sponsorships, merchandise, and ticket sales.

LIV also said it is tracking ahead of its 2025 revenue pace by $100 million so far this year.

Do you think LIV Golf’s delay is just scheduling or a sign of bigger problems ahead?
