LIV Golf Team Plants Flag in Junior Golf With Eye-Catching Title Pact

Recently, the most important thing in golf did not happen in a tournament. It happened in junior golf, and the group behind it? It’s the least expected one.
On February 24, 2026, Torque GC and the American Junior Golf Association announced a long-term sponsorship deal for junior golfers. This means the event will now be called the Torque GC Championship. This will take place from June 9 to 11, 2026, at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club in Florida. It is also the first time a LIV Golf team has been the main sponsor of an AJGA tournament.
The tournament will bring together 78 of the world's top-ranked junior golfers. There will also be a qualifying round on June 8, where 78 more players can earn a spot.
"The AJGA played an important role in our development, and now we have the opportunity to create meaningful opportunities for the next generation," Torque GC captain Joaquin Niemann said in the February 24 joint statement.
"This partnership is about strengthening that pathway, opening doors, raising the standard, and helping young players see a clear route from junior golf to the world stage."
In total, 156 young golfers will compete on a stage built by players who were once in their position.
The American Junior Golf Association is the same junior tour that helped players like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Jordan Spieth.
A Pathway That Could Redefine Latin American Golf
America has shaped top-level golf talent for decades, but the system to consistently develop that talent has often fallen behind. That is the gap Torque GC is trying to address.
Now, a junior golfer from Chile, Mexico, or Colombia who competes at Santa Rosa in June 2026 has something earlier generations did not. Now there is a clearer and more organized path from amateur golf to the professional level, with a team at the top.
Joaquín Niemann won three AJGA titles, including two in a row in 2016 and 2017. He knows how important junior golf is for young players with big dreams. Abraham Ancer continued to support junior golf even after he became a professional. Carlos Ortiz played in seven AJGA events before reaching the highest level.
Torque GC did not wait for an official press release to share the news. On February 23, 2026, one day before the official announcement, the team posted it on Instagram with the message, “Our commitment to the next generation.”
A kid teeing it up at Santa Rosa in June 2026 might not know Niemann's name yet, but that's exactly the point.
Could this be the smartest move LIV Golf has made since it launched, or is it too little, too late? Share your thoughts in the comments.
