LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil has cleared the air amid rumors of a funding shortage. Shortly after rumors of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) pulling its support for LIV Golf, O'Neil dismissed them.

As the pre-tournament news conference of LIV Golf Mexico was cancelled and rescheduled, Fox News’ Chief Political Anchor, Bret Baier, reported that an “emergency meeting” took place in Manhattan, New York, regarding the future of the league.

However, on April 15, Golf Channel insider Rex Hoggard reported that O'Neil had told staffers that the widely reported news was nothing more than rumors. O'Neil said the league was "100% funded through the rest of the year."

The CEO reiterated that stance on Thursday while appearing on the LIV Golf Broadcast. "I want to be crystal clear: Our season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle," Scott O’Neil said as per the Golf Channel.

However, he also explained that doesn't mean the league can take it easy. “The reality is you’re funded through the season and then you work like crazy to create a business plan to keep us going,” O’Neil said.

“But that’s not different from any other private equity-funded business in the history of mankind,” he explained about what comes next.

Where does LIV Golf stand?

LIV Golf has already organized five tournaments this year in Saudi Arabia, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Africa. LIV had announced that their event in South Africa had sold more than 90,000 tickets.

LIV Golf Adelaide was also a huge success as it attracted large crowds when Antony Kim, the champion, came back after being away for 12 years.

PIF also approved fresh capital for the league as recently as February 2026. Money in Sport reported that with the $266.6 million approval, their total investment in the league reached $5.3 billion.

"The life of a startup movement is often defined by these moments of pressure. We signed up for this because we believe in disrupting the status quo," he explained.

"We have faced headwinds since the jump, and we’ve answered every time with resilience and grace. Now, we answer by doing what we do best: putting on the most compelling show in sports," he added.

Last October, the LIV Golf CEO also revealed, "We've had, in like 10 months, we've literally done half a billion in sponsorship like that (snaps fingers), like up from zero."

So, while things are covered for this season, O'Neil also plans to make the league more profitable moving forward.
