After Friday's second round at the Amundi Evian Championship, the leaderboard told two very different stories. Lottie Woad is leading a major championship. Nelly Korda is flying home from France.

Korda, the world No. 1, needed to birdie the par-5 18th to guarantee her spot for the weekend. She missed the fairway, laid up, and left her birdie putt short. She finished tied for 67th, with the top 65 and ties making the cut.

Meanwhile, Woad, 22, shot a seven-under 64 in the second round at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France, on July 10. She mixed eight birdies with one bogey to reach 11-under par, taking a one-shot lead over Japan's Akie Iwai heading into the weekend.

Talking about her performance, Woad said, per Golf Magic, "I hit a lot of fairways and greens, which is definitely the key round here," she said. "If you get in trouble off the tee, it can be pretty difficult, so just been trying to hit my lines. Just made a few more putts today, really."

This performance is even more significant for the LPGA star, considering she came close to winning the Evian Championship a year ago in her start as an amateur. She then won the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open on her professional debut. Now she's back at the same course, leading after 36 holes for the first time in a major.

"I've been very good off the tee," Woad said. "The tee shots are important round here, and if you do that, you can have a lot of wedges and chances."

Woad won the Kroger Queen City Championship in May. She nearly won the Meijer LPGA Classic in June before losing in a playoff after missing a two-footer. She missed the cut at the LPGA Classicthe following week.

While Woad heads into the weekend with the lead, Korda was already on her way out of France.

Nelly Korda Snaps 34-Event Cut Streak at Evian Championship

Korda came in as the pre-tournament favorite, having won the Chevron Championship and the U.S. Women's Open already this season.

And at the Evian, she shot a 3-over 74 in the first round and came back with a 2-under 69 on Friday. She finished at 1-over for the tournament, missing the cut by one shot. It ended her streak of 34 straight made cuts on the LPGA Tour. Her last missed cut came at the 2024 KPMG Women's PGA Championship.

She declined to speak with the media for the second straight day and left France on Friday.

The missed cut also ended a bigger chase. Korda came to France with a chance at the career grand slam and entry into the LPGA Hall of Fame.
