Lucas Glover holed a birdie putt on Sunday at the 3M Open. Then he took his shoes off, walked to the hole in his socks, collected his ball, and left. Golf's internet went into overdrive within minutes.
The incident happened on the 10th hole during the final round at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, on July 27. Glover rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt to reach six-under for the tournament.
He then walked away from the hole, removed both shoes, retrieved his ball in his socks, and walked off the green. His playing partner was Max Greyserman, who uses AimPoint, a feel-based green-reading method that Glover has publicly criticised for years.
The golf world immediately assumed it was a protest against AimPoint. Glover did not speak to the media after his round. But he later addressed it directly in an Instagram comment responding to the Flushing It golf account on July 27 on X. Glover said it had nothing to do with AimPoint. The group behind him had complained about his spike marks, and he was "just goofing off" in response.
Greyserman uses AimPoint. Glover has called for the method to be banned. He has said previously no statistical data is proving AimPoint makes anyone a better putter. The shoe removal happened right next to where Greyserman was standing.
Glover's AimPoint criticism isn't new. It goes back years and has been a recurring topic on his former Sirius XM show.

Glover became the PAC Chairman earlier this season in his first year on the PGA Tour's Player Advisory Council.
Starting next season, he will also serve as a player director on the Tour's board, replacing Adam Scott, according to El-Balad. In this new role, Glover will help make decisions on Tour issues, including pace of play, from 2028 onwards.
AimPoint users on Tour include Adam Scott, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Sam Burns and Dustin Johnson, among others.
