Two-time PGA Tour champion Ludvig Åberg enters the final round of The Players Championship with a healthy lead.
After the third round, Aberg is at 13-under par with a three-shot lead at TPC Sawgrass. He followed a second-round 63 with a 1-under 71 on Saturday to stay in front of the field.
As the tournament moves into Sunday, Ludvig Åberg will once again rely on the presence of Joe Skovron, the caddie on his bag this week.
During the press conference on Saturday at TPC Sawgrass, Åberg discussed the communication he shares with his caddie:
“I believe in a very open, transparent relationship, so if he feels like he needs to say something, say it.”
One of the best things about watching Ludvig Aberg is how he just gets on with it. Doesn’t mess about over the ball. Doesn’t whinge about bad breaks. Just smiles and flushes it. So good

The 26-year-old continued by explaining how much trust he gives Skovron during a round.
“I've always given him sort of the benefit to, if you feel like this is the wrong decision, please tell me, even if I'm over the ball and the wind might switch, or the wind might do something weird.”
The duo began their partnership in late 2023 when Åberg was preparing for his first full season on the PGA Tour and chose to work with a caddie who had spent years on tour.
Since then, Skovron has been part of Åberg’s team during several key moments in his early professional career.
Ludvig Åberg on the Trust He Shares With Caddie Joe Skovron
During the press conference, Åberg also explained why he places so much trust in his caddie.
“Yeah, for sure, I trust Joe with a lot, obviously, with his experience and what he's done in the last 13, 14 years in this game. So for sure. I give him a lot of trust,” said Ludvig Åberg.
Before caddying for Ludvig Åberg, Joe Skovron had already worked with several players on the PGA Tour.
From 2009 to 2022, Skovron carried the bag for Rickie Fowler and was part of the team during Fowler’s win at The Players Championship in 2015.
After that partnership ended, Skovron worked with Tom Kim between 2022 and 2023, a period that included two PGA Tour victories and an appearance at the 2022 Presidents Cup.
Skovron later joined Åberg’s team, and since the partnership began, he has been on the bag during Åberg’s second PGA Tour win at the 2025 Genesis Invitational and his runner-up finish at the 2024 Masters.
