A 22-year-old golfer just added fuel to one of golf's biggest debates. In a recent interview, Luke Clanton claimed Scottie Scheffler is 'playing the best golf out of anyone ever,' placing his current form above even Tiger Woods' peak.

Luke Clanton appeared on The Smylie Show on Wednesday, where he said, "I have a really hot take, and I've always said this. I think he's [Scottie] playing the best golf out of anyone ever."

Supporters of the comparison often point to Scottie Scheffler’s consistency during his recent run. In July 2025, it was highlighted that the 1,197 days between his first and fourth major titles matched the same span between Tiger Woods’ first and fourth majors. By August 2025, Scheffler had recorded 18 wins within four years, placing his stretch among the most productive runs in recent professional golf.

At the same time, Tiger's 15 majors are only second to Jack Nicklaus. His 142 cut streak remains legendary. And while he's been struggling with injuries, Woods remains one of the greatest of all time. That's why Clanton summed it up by saying:

"Obviously, I know Tiger is the best. I love Tiger, and I think he's the GOAT, and I think he's done incredible things, but Scottie just doesn't miss, and when he does miss, it looks like a great shot. It's just crazy to watch."

However, not everyone agrees that the two careers belong in the same discussion, even Scheffler himself.

Scottie Scheffler Acknowledges the Gap With Tiger Woods

Even as comparisons continue, Scheffler himself has acknowledged the distance between his résumé and Tiger Woods.

After securing his fourth major at the 2025 Open Championship, he put the gap into perspective, noting that Woods won 15 majors and that his own total represents only a fraction of that mark.

Scheffler has pointed to a defining moment that shaped his approach. A practice round with Woods at the 2020 Masters left an impression on him, particularly the level of focus Woods maintained even when he was not in contention. 

He has since tried to apply that standard to his own preparation and performance.
