Most people go to Wimbledon to watch tennis, but Luke Donald apparently goes to give golf lessons. 

The European Ryder Cup captain was caught on camera Wednesday working on Justin Rose's swing between points, at one of sport's most prestigious events.

Ryder Cup Europe posted the clip on X, captioning it: "The grind never stops. Even at @Wimbledon." The video showed Donald and Rose at the All England Club, with the captain offering swing tips to his player in between the action on court.

Golf media account Skratch responded on X with a post that captured what many were thinking. "Me (an 18 handicap) giving my partner (also an 18 handicap) swing tips at the turn," the account posted.

The pair were part of a wider European Ryder Cup contingent who made the trip to Wimbledon.

Rory McIlroy attended in his green Masters jacket alongside his wife, Erica Stoll. Teammates Tommy Fleetwood and Rose, captain Donald, and vice-captains Thomas Bjorn, Edoardo Molinari, and Francesco Molinari all watched Jannik Sinner's second-round match against Nuno Borges from the Royal Box at Centre Court.

Europe confirmed Donald as captain for a third straight term in March. The 2027 Ryder Cup will be played at Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland.

Rose, 45, has been one of Europe’s top players leading into the match.

He finished third at the Masters earlier this year and also won a tournament in San Diego in February. After these results, he returned to the world’s top five rankings for the first time in six years.

Luke Donald and Rose: A relationship built on Ryder Cup trust

The two have known each other for a long time in team golf.

Rose was an important player for Donald at the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone. He helped rookie Robert MacIntyre during his first match against the United States team.

Donald has spoken warmly about Rose's role in the team environment. When Rose finished runner-up at the 2026 Masters after a playoff loss to McIlroy, Donald said it was 'a difficult message to write' to his player afterward.

"It was so much good stuff in what he did," Donald told Bunkered. "Ten birdies on a Sunday at Augusta is pretty amazing."

Industry insiders had widely considered Rose a frontrunner to captain the European Ryder Cup team himself one day, according to the PGA Tour.
