Major-Winning LIV Pro Admits He Nearly Quit Golf on the PGA Tour

“I was ready to call it a day, or very close to it, back in ’21.” Louis Oosthuizen, in a clip shared by Michael Sherman two days ago.
Louis Oosthuizen said he was close to stepping away from golf around 2021.
Even after a season that included second-place finishes at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open, along with a third-place result at The Open Championship.
The constant travel and repeated weekly routine on the PGA Tour began to take a toll, and he felt his connection with the game slipping.
However, after joining the South African setup and becoming part of Southern Guards GC, he felt motivated again and began reconnecting with the game.

The 43-year-old has continued his career on the LIV Golf League, where he captains Southern Guards GC.
He explained that the change helped him manage his time more effectively and restored his enjoyment of competing.
He explained that his final years on the PGA Tour affected his enjoyment, but the Liv Golf team environment has helped him push himself while also having fun.
Oosthuizen added that he plans to keep playing as long as he feels competitive and believes he can win, and he will step away only when that belief is gone.
Oosthuizen signed a four-year contract with LIV in June 2022 and remains focused on playing major championships whenever he is eligible.
Louis Oosthuizen has continued to compete and deliver consistent finishes in LIV
Since leaving the PGA Tour, Louis Oosthuizen has settled into LIV Golf as a steady performer, both individually and with his team.
As the captain of Southern Guards GC (Stinger GC), he has been part of a group that has remained in contention, including a win at LIV’s first event in London and a third-place finish in the 2025 team standings.
Individually, Oosthuizen has recorded several strong finishes since joining LIV Golf. He tied for seventh at LIV Golf Miami in April 2024 and followed with a tie for fifth at LIV Golf Singapore in March 2025.
While he is still searching for his first individual LIV title, he has continued to win elsewhere, including the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Championship in December 2023, where he beat Charl Schwartzel by two shots for his first victory in five years.
