Marco Penge had high hopes for his official PGA Tour rookie season debut at the Farmers Insurance Open, but the 27-year-old recently disclosed how a viral fever is making his task significantly tougher.

Penge had three victories in 2025, which earned him a spot in the DP World Tour's top 10. This is how he qualified for the PGA Tour and will now compete with modern-era stars like Brooks Koepka.

During his pre-tournament press conference at Torrey Pines on Monday, Penge didn't hold back when asked about his health. He said, "I'm feeling a little better in myself. Still struggling with a couple of things, but it's come time that I need to forget about that and focus on the golf."

The 27-year-old also revealed that he'd seen a doctor about an hour before speaking to the media, which means that Penge will have to work through some serious physical challenges while trying to get his PGA Tour career off the ground.

The timing of Penge's fever couldn't have been worse. This week marks his eighth career start on the PGA Tour, but it’s his first as an official Tour member.

When asked about his delayed start, Penge mentioned, "I'd like to have started a little sooner than this week," which means that the illness has already disrupted his plans.

But the 27-year-old isn't ready to bow to adversity. He stated, "My game's in pretty good shape, my speed, just I'm having to work a little harder for it, but it's fine."

Well, it's the same quality that helped him win the Spanish Open last year in a playoff without his A-game. He knows how to push forward.
