Matt Fitzpatrick Leads at RBC Heritage as Scottie Scheffler Stays in Contention

Matt Fitzpatrick takes a three-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler into Sunday’s final round at the RBC Heritage. He recovered from a shaky start on Saturday to get to 17-under and is now chasing a repeat of his 2023 win at Harbour Town.
Fitzpatrick dropped early shots but recovered across the back nine. A 25-foot putt on the par-3 14th and a chip-in on the 15th contributed to a third-round 68 and extended his lead to three.
Scheffler made the biggest charge of the day with a 64 to move into solo second at 14-under. He surged early with birdies on five of his first six holes and briefly pulled level before slipping back.

Fitzpatrick admitted there was some early pressure, but he never felt things were falling apart. "The bogeys that I made today, I didn't feel like I kind of hit it off the planet, and I was scrambling and stuff."
"I just felt that they were holes that I didn't really make my par on. I felt like I was making good enough swings to make a turnaround on the back nine. Obviously, some nice momentum with the hole-outs on 14 and 15," Fitzpatrick said.
When asked if he would watch Scheffler on Sunday or just focus on his own game, Fitzpatrick answered right away.
"No, just stay in my own lane," Fitzpatrick said. "Take a little bit of advice from Rory and stay in your own world and concentrate on what I'm doing and my scores."
But Fitzpatrick’s form over the last month shows a very different player from the one he was a year ago.
How a Difficult 2025 Changed Matt Fitzpatrick Heading Into Sunday
This is not just one lucky week for Fitzpatrick. He lost a close fight at The Players Championship, then came back and won the Valspar. Now he leads after 54 holes at a course where he also won in 2023, beating Jordan Spieth in a playoff.
Last year, he had three missed cuts in five starts and nothing better than T22 before Harbour Town told the story. Now, he’s in control, showing a complete turnaround.
"Probably just more nervous," Fitzpatrick said, comparing his 2025 mindset to now. "Even just being with my psychologist, telling him feelings and thoughts and stuff, it's been good because it's new again."
Sunday at Harbour Town is set up to be one of the most exciting final rounds of the season.
