Matt Kuchar and Son Reveal How the Latter Improved His Golf at the PNC Championship After R1

In the 2025 PNC Championship, Matt Kuchar teamed up with his son, Cameron Kuchar. When asked about advice from his father, Cameron revealed an important detail.

“I work mostly with him on my swing, so it’s him and his coach, Chris O’Connell,” Cameron said in an interview after the first round at the PNC Championship, as posted by TenGolf on YouTube.

While O’Connell remains his primary coach, access is not always frequent. “I don’t see Chris as much as I might like to, but my dad has been with Chris for 15 years now, so he basically knows almost everything Chris knows.”

That long-standing relationship has turned Matt Kuchar into a daily point of reference for Cameron. “Makes it really nice for me being able to just have him at my house every day,” Cameron added.

Matt Kucha also described his role with restraint. “I think part of the skill as a coach is not to overcoach,” he said.

Instead of constant adjustments, the approach is about direction. “Certainly, we try to just steer in the right direction and let his athletic talent do a lot of work,” Matt Kuchar said. Matt and Cameron Kucher finished with a 15-under-par 57, and in round 1, they ended up with 15 birdies/eagles combined, topping the leaderboard.

Matt stressed that the goal is continuity. “We make sure he continues working in the right direction,” he said, noting that the process itself has been rewarding. “It’s been fun to see the improvements.”

Also, the 2025 PNC Championship scorecard is unmatched.

A tight leaderboard made it hard for Team Kuchar

At the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Team Kuchar’s score put them two shots clear of Team Daly, who finished at 13 under after Round 1.

Behind the top two teams, several squads sat just a few strokes off the pace. Then, three teams tied at T3, including team Love, team Stricker, and team Korda at 12-under par, opening with a 60 and staying firmly in contention after the first day.

The fact competition was tight also became apparent with just how many duos finished tied for the same position. Teams Leonard, Annika, Woodland, Langer, and Duval all finished tied at T6

Meanwhile, teams Lehman, Trevino, and Furyk ended up at T18 with 65 strokes. This mix of scoring depth and tight margins set up a compelling Sunday finish, with multiple teams in striking distance of the lead heading into the final round.

However, Team Kuchar held on to the lead in the final round. They held off Team Daly and Team Love to win the event with a record-breaking 33-under score.
