Michael Kim had no idea he was going to finish 25th at the 2026 RBC Heritage.

Walking off the 18th thinking he'd finish 40th, Kim was caught off guard when the wind turned Harbour Town nasty and pushed his quiet 62 up the leaderboard.

"Fun final round 62," Kim wrote on X. "I felt really good about my game after Thursday. It just took a few more days to come out than I would have wanted. It didn't feel like I was doing anything out of the ordinary on Sunday."

The putter got hot and stayed hot. Kim didn't even realize until after he signed the card that he'd only used 20 putts all round.

"Watching Jason Day putt is a masterclass," he mentioned. "The focus, stroke, and speed are all so spot on. I think it had a positive effect on my putting as well. He also gave me some perfect reads a couple of times that helped me."

The conditions were fine when Kim was out there. By the time others came through, Harbour Town turned nasty.

"It clearly got much harder after I finished, I hit 3-wood, 7-iron into 18. The wind was just starting to creep up as I was finishing, and I thought I'd finish 40th, not 25th. I'll take it."

What looked like a clean week from the outside was messier than the scorecard suggested, and a broken club was at the center of it.

Kim noticed a crack in his 3-wood while preparing to hit his tee shot on the 18th hole, after all the manufacturer trucks had already left the course. He then turned to his former college teammate, Max Homa, for help.

Kim and Homa both played for the UC Berkeley Golden Bears golf team back in 2012 and 2013.

"The honeymoon phase ended quickly, and I hit it terribly on Saturday," Kim wrote. "Couldn't stop missing it, left with a toe ball. Lost at least 3 strokes because of that thing."

A different club went in the bag on Sunday. The misses stopped.

Kim also gave Harbour Town its flowers on the way out, calling it one of the best courses on tour and pointing to the way angles and tree placement make it stand apart.

"Angles don't matter in 99% of courses, but they certainly do here," he wrote. "Fantastic."
