Rookie Michael La Sasso's breakthrough win may be LIV Golf's last. With LIV Golf’s future still in the balance, the 22-year-old is not sure where he’s headed next season.
La Sasso’s win at The Club at Chatham Hills made him LIV Golf’s youngest winner. However, the rookie has not decided on his future yet.
"That's a great question. I'm honestly not sure," said La Sasso. "I'm ready to go back home and spend some time around my family and the people I love. I'm just taking it week by week."

With the PIF backing out, LIV Golf is now left without a financial backer. Although the league announced it had signed a term sheet with an unnamed lead investor, the September 1 deadline looms to complete the agreement.
LIV golfers are scrambling to secure spots elsewhere. Marquee men Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are reportedly set to leave the league, whereas five-time LIV winner Bryson DeChambeau is still backing LIV 2.0.
It remains to be seen what La Sasso decides for his future. Over the weekend, the youngster held off some big names to clinch his first professional title.
"Seeing those names on the leaderboard, those are guys I grew up watching and admiring, so knowing I was able to hold him off, that's even more special, to be honest,” added La Sasso, as per Golf Monthly's Paul Higham.
With a 5-under in the closing round, La Sasso finished at 18-under for the tournament. He edged Rahm by a stroke for the win.
La Sasso's incredible performance earned a nod of approval from golfing great Phil Mickelson.
A mentor's approval validates the win
Six-time major winner Phil Mickelson has not been playing much golf lately. However, the veteran has stayed in touch with his HyFlyers team.
"He [Mickelson] sent us a text last night," said La Sasso, as per Golf Monthly's Paul Higham. "I know he was watching, said it was the most fun he's had. I'm sure he was looking at it us, and I'm thankful for everything he's done.”
Mickelson was the one who brought in Sasso to his team for the 2026 campaign. For the move, the former NCAA champion gave up his spot in the Masters and has now won his first title.
It has been a rocky year for Lasso, with just one top-15 finish before LIV Indianapolis. However, the 22-year-old pulled off the best finish of his season.
