Denmark’s Jeff Winther was cruising towards his first DP World Tour victory when he locked himself up in trouble. However, his six-year-old daughter stepped up to help her dad secure his win.

After three rounds, Winther was leading the tournament with a score of 15 under. On the morning of the final round, Winther went in for a shower, and the door locked behind him.

"After breakfast, I went to have a shower, and my wife came in to use the bathroom as well," said Winther, per DP World Tour on X. "The door closed, and there's no lock, but we locked ourselves in… Our little girl Nora had to go and find guys at reception to break down the door.”

"We were in there for 45 minutes, I think. I thought, 'Jeez, not today, not Sunday, you're leading the freaking event. Might not get there for your tee time,'” he added.

Winther was to begin the closing round with a two-shot lead. However, reaching the course before his tee time was in jeopardy after the lock-up. It was six-year-old Nora who went in search of help and brought people to break down the door.

Winther reflected on how the incident affected his mindset.

"I think it settled my nerves as I thought, 'Jeez, I might miss my tee time. I may not get out and see my kids, my kids are in the living room and have no chance! Six and two years old, what are you going to do?!'" he added.

The 38-year-old posted a closing round of 70 to finish at 15 under. He went on to secure the title by a stroke over Spain’s Pep Anglès and Jorge Campillo, as well as Sweden’s Sebastian Söderberg.

The Mallorca Golf Open remains his only win on the European Tour, and his daughter deserves a lot of credit.

The Short History Of The Mallorca Golf Open

Following Winther’s win, the Mallorca Golf Open happened just once, in the following year.

The tournament, intended as a one-off event, was the first European Tour played in Mallorca since the Iberdrola Open in 2011. The two editions had an uncanny similarity in regard to their winners.

In 2022, Germany’s Yannik Paul also recorded his only European Tour victory at Mallorca. Just like Winther, he finished with a score of 15-under par and recorded a one-stroke victory.

Fellow German Nicolai von Dellingshausen and England’s Paul Waring came up short against Paul.
