Three down. One to go. After 14 years of waiting, Nelly Korda finally won her first-ever U.S. Women's Open title on Sunday, and her tears said it all.

“I feel like I'm in a dream, gosh. I just can't even explain how much this means to me. Thank you all for coming out and cheering me on. It really means a lot.” Korda said. 

With the win, Korda became the youngest American to win four majors since Mickey Wright in 1960. She also became the first player to win the first two majors of a season since Inbee Park in 2013.

Korda had not gotten off to a good start at Riviera. However, valuable advice from her elder sister Jessica changed everything. Since then, the 19-time LPGA winner has not looked back and secured her fourth major title. 

“I want to thank my whole team, my family, my sister who's been grinding with me before my rounds after my rounds on the grip, and then Kim, who has kept my body together. Jay, who is my other half on the golf course. I wouldn't be here without you,” she added.

Korda lifted the 81st U.S. Women’s Open on Sunday, edging Charley Hull and Gaby Lopez by one shot. A 2-under 69 in the final round was enough to secure her second consecutive major title.

Her closing round featured three birdies, a lone bogey and a 2 feet par putt that hung on the rim but finally slipped in, at the final hole.

“I wrote one today and I said. Whatever happens, happens, just give it a 100 percent. And that's what I did,” Korda talked about one of her mantras.

The 27-year old has been seeking the U.S. Women’s Open for some time now and came close very last season.

Korda also claimed the $2.5 million winner’s share of this Open’s record $12.5 million purse. The four-time major winner is now just two points away from a Hall of Fame berth, and one championship away from a career Grand Slam.

Hull And Lopez Speak Out After Narrowly Missing Out At Riviera

England’s Charley Hull ended up runner-up at a major for the fifth time in her career.

The 30-year old finished at 7-under-par with rounds of 65 and 67 in the final rounds.

“So, yeah, it’s pretty annoying, but I played really well the last day. Obviously missed a couple putts on the back nine, but it was quite windy and I hit the ball fantastic so fair play to Nelly Korda for back-to-back wins.” Hull said.

On the other hand, Lopez also finished tied for 2nd alongside Hull. She shot a 3-under 68 on Sunday, matching her opening round score.

“I feel amazing, honestly. I mean, I'm not disappointed at all,” Lopez said after her round. “I am so happy. I realize that I can win a major championship. I realize that I can put myself in a position that down the stretch on the back nine of a major championship I can still deliver.”

Her only bogey of the tournament at the 16th hole on Sunday cost her heavily. Although she came back with the biggest putt of her career at the final hole, it was still not enough for the win.
