World No. 1 Nelly Korda arrived at Riviera Country Club on Wednesday wearing a USMNT soccer jersey instead of her usual golf clothes, which created a lot of buzz among fans.
Korda wore the USMNT's navy-blue away jersey in Pacific Palisades, California, during her entire practice round and later to the official press conference before the U.S. Women's Open.
The LPGA Tour shared her stylish arrival at the facility on Instagram. The jersey had the number 13 on the back and her name printed above it. There were two reasons behind her choice. "I know that the World Cup is starting next week," Korda said. "So there's no better place to kind of be patriotic than the U.S. Women's Open."
The kit honored two things at once. Her Solheim Cup selection and the 2026 World Cup are kicking off June 12 across North America. "I'm just really excited to tee it up in Amsterdam playing for our country," she said of the Solheim Cup.
The No. 13 was personal. "My parents are 13 days apart. Our second major was my 13th win. A lot of people think Friday the 13th or 13 has been an unlucky number, but I've always loved the number 13," Korda said.
Korda is a three-time major champion. She won the Chevron Championship in April for her 13th LPGA Tour title. After not winning a single event in 2025, she has already earned three victories in 2026.
No American player has won the U.S. Women's Open since Michelle Wie West won the title at Pinehurst in 2014.
Players from six different countries have won the last six U.S. Women's Open titles. With the World Cup coming to the United States and the country's top golfer wearing American colors, this moment actually felt extra special.
"Star of the show": Fans and Brands React to Nelly Korda's USMNT Look
When the world's No. 1 golfer arrives at the U.S. Women's Open wearing a football jersey, people do notice. And this became evident from the comments section of the LPGA Tour's Instagram post.
The brands quickly reacted to Korda's outfit. Nike commented, "Star of the show ✨," while Nike Women wrote, "Always under par. Never underdressed." The USMNT account replied with a salute emoji, and fellow golfer Michelle Wie West also showed her excitement by commenting, "That jacket is sickkkkkk."
Regular fans also joined the conversation. Many praised Korda's look, with comments like "Looking spectacular as always! 🔥" and "The star has arrived in style ⭐️."
Others enjoyed seeing golf and soccer come together, with one fan writing, "The LPGA's social media is next level 😍." Another one shared a heartfelt message that read, "Play well, Nelly, you're a blessing to the golf world and humanity."
However, regardless of what the world said about her outfit, Korda's focus will be back on the game once the U.S. Women's Open gets underway on June 4. She finished tied for second last year, but she will certainly be hoping for something better this time.
A win at the U.S. Women's Open would give Korda her second major title of 2026 and the fourth major championship of her career. She has already won three times this season, including the Chevron Championship.
So, do you think Korda can win her first U.S. Women's Open this week? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
