Scottie Scheffler is not just the world No.1. He’s also a class act, according to Nico Echavarria. In a decisive Sunday singles match, a fan put off Echavarria. However, Scheffler went out of his way to make things even.
After 13 holes, Scheffler was 3-up against Echavarria. That’s when, at the par-4 14th, a fan yelled “Go Scottie,” in the middle of Echavarria’s backswing. He hit an errant drive, and Scheffler wasn’t going to let it slide.
“It’s unfortunate that in some way the crowds can affect performance like that,” Echavarria said. “But we have the No. 1 player in the world who’s a class act. I wasn’t expecting for him to give me that putt for par.”

Echavarria's drive sailed 226 yards into the rough. He dropped his club in frustration as Scheffler approached the fan to register his disapproval.
They played out the hole in tense silence, reaching the green where Echavarria faced a 40-foot par putt. The world No.1 decided to show his class.
Facing a 19-foot birdie putt of his own, Scheffler decided to concede the par to Echavarria. The American still had the chance to win the hole but missed his birdie putt.
As a result, the hole was halved, and Scheffler shared his point of view on the incident.
"There's just no place for that. I was very frustrated,” Scheffler said, as reported by PGA Tour's Will Gray. "It just didn't really sit well with me. He would never hit a shot as poorly as he hit, I think, off the 14th if there wasn't a fan yelling in his swing.”
Scheffler retained the 3-up lead heading to No. 15. Echavarria made things interesting with a birdie on the par-3 16th.
However, the world No. 1 closed out the match 2 and 1 at the 17th, contributing to the U.S. Team’s incredible comeback.
Right after his win over Echavarria, Scheffler was visibly agitated by a reporter.
Scheffler's irritation over benching question
As a rather surprising move, Scheffler was benched for the Saturday foursomes session. When NBC's Cara Banks asked for his opinion on that, the world No. 1 disliked the line of questioning.
"I mean, do you want to talk about today's match? I just played some golf out there. Do you want to talk about that?" Scheffler responded, per Golf Digest's Christopher Powers.
Before that, Scheffler had defended Team USA captain Brandt Snedeker's decision-making. Right after the 2-and-1 win, the American was justifiably expecting questions on the dramatic match.
Following Scheffler’s response, Banks went on to ask about Echavarria's chip-in on the 16th and got the interview on the lines of what the world No. 1 wanted.
