When it comes to Rory McIlroy and his game on the course, he is one of the best golfers, but his off-course reputation says the opposite. Irish singer-songwriter Niall Horan appeared on Boston Common Golf and opened up about McIlroy’s singing talent.
Horan was asked, who would have more success if Rory McIlroy had to sing in front of 30,000 people or you had to tee off at the Sofi Center tonight?
Horan did not hesitate and said, “ I actually think I'd have a better chance at sight than Rory singing. I've heard him and that was…” Coming from a former One Direction star, it was a playful jab, but not an outrageous one.

McIlroy has never pretended to be a hidden pop star. Still, golf fans have seen enough moments to know he does not shy away from it. McIlroy joined in singing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” after winning the Zurich Classic alongside Shane Lowry.
That is what makes Horan’s joke land. Rory would survive the moment, smile through it, and probably enjoy himself. But if success means sounding good, the mike still belongs to Niall.
When Golf’s Greats Showed Their Skills Beyond the Course
Golf has always produced specialists, but some legends didn't stop at one talent or following their passion or hobby. Tiger Woods is the obvious starting point. His memory is almost legendary in itself.
Woods has often recalled entire rounds shot by shot, even years later, a skill that teammates and rivals have openly admired. Away from golf, he is also known to thrive in competitive card games, especially poker, where patience and reading opponents matter just as much as skill.
Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, has shown a different side of versatility. He is comfortable speaking on big stages, whether it is addressing golf’s political divide or rallying teammates during Ryder Cup weeks.
Even Jack Nicklaus surpassed his influence on the playing field alone, establishing an international golf course design business and gaining respect as a calm, measured leader.
These golf legends not only achieved the peak of the game but also figured out how to perform excellently in areas beyond it.
