One Major Win, 100 Straight Starts: Adam Scott's Underrated Career Based on Consistency

via Usta

Professional golfer Adam Scott is reaching his 100th consecutive major championship start. This streak highlights a career defined by elite consistency and a 2013 Masters victory.

25 years back, Scott made his second major appearance at the Open. Since then, he has been an ever-present name on major lineups.

“I would rather win some stuff, and let's celebrate winning the US Open than just playing in it. I feel like that, but, you know, I can give myself a pat on the back for hanging in there and playing all these events,” said Scott.

Scott’s only regret would be winning just one Green Jacket out of his 100 major starts. He also has 14 PGA Tour titles to show for his efforts.

Only Jack Nicklaus has achieved this record besides Scott. The Aussie has endlessly competed against strong contenders throughout his career.

To put it into perspective, Scott played alongside 65-year-old Gary Player at Royal Lytham & St Annes back in 2001.

At Augusta last month, the 45-year-old featured along with 18-year-old Mason Howell, who was born 72 years after Player.

The longevity speaks for itself. Scott entered the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking in 2001 and still remains there.

During this streak, Scott has registered 19 top-10 finishes, which include eight in the top five. At times, he has been very close to adding to his 2013 Masters victory.

Scott’s Near Misses At The Majors

Despite his reliability, several majors slipped through Scott's fingers.

The veteran's most heartbreaking major would be the 2012 Open Championship, where the Aussie collapsed in the final round.

Scott had a four-shot lead with just four holes remaining. Unfortunately, he ended up bogeying the final four holes, which handed the major to another veteran, Ernie Els.

In the following year, Scott was again in strong contention but finished tied for third. The third-place finish at the 2018 PGA Championship was another close call.

Prior to winning his only major at Augusta, Scott had finished tied for second at the 2011 Masters but was able to improve upon that result in 2013.
